Regulation Requirements

The Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act Amendment of 1989 requires that institutions of higher education receiving federal funds or financial assistance must develop and implement a program to prevent the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by students and employees. The program must include annual notification of the following: standards of conduct; a description of sanctions for violating federal, state, and local law and campus policy; a description of health risks associated with alcohol and drug use; a description of treatment options; and a biennial review of the program’s effectiveness and the consistency of the enforcement of sanctions.

Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program 

Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center (Ïã½¶Ö±²¥) is committed to keeping your health and safety a top priority. Alcohol and drug abuse remains a significant problem in the United States, and Ïã½¶Ö±²¥ continues to strongly promote an environment that discourages the inappropriate or illegal use of drugs and alcohol. Ïã½¶Ö±²¥ has adopted and implemented a Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program to prevent the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of illicit drugs and alcohol by all students and employees both on school premises and as part of any of its activities. TUHSC has designated a Committee to examine the current Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Programs, and sends out an annual notification to all Ïã½¶Ö±²¥ faculty, staff, residents, and students via email several times a year. The Office of Institutional Compliance is responsible for preparing and distributing Ïã½¶Ö±²¥â€™s DAAPP Biennial Report in collaboration with the Committee.

Ïã½¶Ö±²¥ Policies

HSC OP: 10.03, Alcohol and Illegal Drugs policy prohibits the unlawful possession, use, or distribution of alcohol and illegal drugs on Ïã½¶Ö±²¥ property or as a part of any officially sponsored Ïã½¶Ö±²¥ activities.
